Named for Margot from the Royal Tenenbaums - a 2001 film by Wes Anderson. She was dressed in conservative pieces, but she was rebellious as a person. Margot is a playwright prodigy, whose style is girly, preppy, shows Broadway aspirations, yet also utilises a muted colour palette. Endearingly awkward and perfectly unimpressed.
The post-war economy boom in the 1950s saw a love affair with diamonds. Diamond company De Beers’ iconic “Diamonds are Forever” campaign created an aspirational buzz which the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, starring Marilyn Monroe, exacerbated with the infamous “diamonds are a girl’s best friend” musical number.
